Why Treat Varicose Veins with Varithena®️?

Varicose veins are unsightly, no doubt, but the real issue is deeper than that. Varicose veins, though frequently considered a cosmetic problem, are often a symptom of a more serious condition called chronic venous insufficiency. They can cause pain, discomfort, heaviness of the legs, swelling in the legs and ankles, numbness, and itching. They may also lead to more serious complications like deep vein thrombosis (blood clot), ulcers (sores that won’t heal), bleeding varicose veins, and other potentially serious health issues.

Varithena®️ can be used to treat several types of veins that cause spider veins and varicose veins of varying size. Dr. Kamran can help you decide if Varithena®️ is the best treatment for you.

The Procedure

Varithena®️ is administered in our offices. The procedure itself can take as little as 15 minutes, though it may take longer if there are several veins to be treated. First, the area to be treated is numbed using a local anesthetic. Using ultrasound guidance, a needle or catheter is placed into the vein to be treated. A small amount of the Varithena®️ sclerosant medication is injected slowly. The foam evenly fills the vein, displacing the blood it contained and causing it to spasm, collapse and close. Your doctor will also apply pressure to the vein to ensure it collapses. The number of injections you’ll need will depend upon how many veins need to be treated. Once the procedure is completed, a band-aid or tape will be applied to the injection site(s) and a pressure bandage and compression stocking will be put on the treated leg.

You may be asked to walk around for 15 minutes or so following the procedure, then you can go about your day as usual.
