What are they?

Varicose veins are blood vessels under the skin that have become swollen and/or twisted. You can get them on any part of your body, but they are most common and most treatable in the legs and feet.

For some patients, the only impact of varicose veins are their appearance; blue or purple veins under the surface of the skin or swollen and/or twisted veins that look like cords down the leg. - Swelling of the legs, ankles and feet

- Discoloration in the skin

- Rash or itchiness around the veins (eczema)

- Burning of the skin around the veins

- Ulcers, clotting or bleeding (less common symptoms)

Treatment Options

Modern technology has come a long way in the treatment of varicose veins. Today, procedures can be done in the medical practice with little to no downtime. Most patients agree that the procedure is virtually painless.

Procedures:

- Sclerotherapy - injecting a foamy compound to block the vein
